Fair point, that, H&P. Over-extertion does mean that players enter that 'zone' - for want of a better term - in which they risk injury. But, for me, it's about making the team fitter and stronger. I'm not sure there has been enough of a focus on that under Manny.

At times this season we have looked physically far weaker than our opponents, who have been able to bully us around. That's what has led to the idea that we've become a bunch of 'Latino pushovers': technically good players (who happen to be Spanish, French or Portuguese speaking) who won't or don't exert themselves.

Pochettino had this problem when he first got to Spurs. He had a number of technically-gifted players who were, however accurately, perceived as a bit lazy: like Dembele. He spent his first year getting Spurs fitter, stronger and working harder, while still playing attacking football. And they flourished.

Manny needs to do the same with our side. We've got good players (although we are weak in some areas, like full-back). But we look like unfit pushovers at times.

Antonio was a revelation to some yesterday because he put in the energy levels and effort we have rarely seen from our forwards this season.

Believe the Gaffer is trying to strike a balance between work-rate and over-exertion injury crisis.

It’s about time he finally found it because some are clearly going backwards and stagnating.

Branded - true. Haller and others just don't close down quickly like Antonio. That's what I like about the fella: he never lets the opposition settle and makes it physically uncomfortable to play against him.

But, again, that should be the bare minimum for every player on the pitch. I have grown tired under Manny, of seeing players walk off the pitch at the end of 90 minutes looking like they've got another half an hour in their legs.

That's why the stats (not that it is all about stats - they don't indicate good decision-making) almost always show that other teams have outworked us this season.

The one thing every manager, at any level of football, should always demand of their players is that they leave everything on the pitch at the end of 90 minutes.

Naturally we need to show quality on the ball and good decision-making - this is West Ham. But energy, effort, pressing and work-rate should be a given.

Its not just putting a shift in. Its about what you're doing with your shift. If you're causing your opponents to stretch and tire and freak out instead of being comfortable then you're creating opportunities and openings. Fast players do this. Big fast players do this even better. We had been pedestrian until Antonio came on against Spurs. I'm assuming the rest of them either can't or won't do this.

If Haller hasn't got the brains to look at Antonio's performance and effort levels, his positioning and his willingness to hassle the centre backs relentlessly with movement and strength, then he ain't the man for us.

I generally hate the term 'put in a shift' in football - because, to me, EVERYBODY should ALWAYS 'put in a shift'.

But Antonio put in a shift yesterday.

Not all of it was top quality. He can be a frustrating fucker, because the ball will bounce away off his shins and his first touch is not always great.

But he does show touches of real class, he never, ever lets his head drop and he works like a dog. He's a fucking unit, too, and one who knows how to use his strength. Battered a few of their lads yesterday.

I'm not ever against foreign players in the Premier League - and some of our overseas players played well yesterday (Balbuena and Oggy in particular). But it was interesting that the British lads really stood up to be counted yesterday. Martin (on debut!), Cresswell, Rice, Noble, Snodgrass, Antonio: all worked like dogs and looked exhausted at the end. They left everything on the pitch.

You could tell that it was a London derby against an old enemy.

Proper team performance - let's have some more of it against Wolves during the week.

Always liked and rated Antonio and never understood the slatings he got. Idiots even claiming he was a championship player.
He's consistently been one of my favourite players since his arrival.

I have to say that I’d love to see a bit of Antonio and Haller played up front.

At least Pellegrini is playing Antionio there where it counts. Now all he has to do is turn Anderson back into a football player worth his price tag, and this seems thus far to have been beyond him and his staff. The deterioration in Anderson’s.case has been shocking. Is he off?

I never watched the game live so was pleasantly surprised having just watched the match, even though I was chewing on my fingers to the bone fully expecting a late Chelsea equalizer………. still a long way to go but does show we are not short of both talent and commitment albeit when it seems to suit some players.

Has to be said that Chelsea were not at there best, and im sure in the back of there minds they may have been a tad complacent seeing they were playing a side who have been utter shit for the last few games.

Typical West Ham result though, a win when no one expects it, will it be a turning point? Hope so but won’t hold my breath!
